Hello hello and welcome back to Good Noise Only!
In this episode, hosts Avery, Jonathan, Sadie, and Riley dive into Ravyn Lenae’s sophmore album Bird’s Eye. A lush, ethereal, and emotionally rich project that blends R&B, alt-pop, and experimental soundscapes. They unpack the album’s themes, vocal textures, production choices, and the world Ravyn builds through her signature atmospheric storytelling. This review explores track-by-track reactions, influences, and what this album brings to the shifting landscape of experimental R&B and alt-pop.
From a personal perspective, watching this episode is so fun and such a different experience from our first two episodes! We had all truly found our grove as a group at this point and it shows in how we act and sound and I love it so so much.
The vibes of this album and this recording session were absolutely immaculate, and I couldn’t be more excited for you all to listen or watch the episode!!
We start this album off with Genius, a really interesting song depicting the ups and downs of a relationship that seems to have little to no communication going on between it. It’s messy, but it’s real. The groovy beat of this song makes it seem like the couple might put on a front of sort in public, making their relationship seem more put together then it actually is. And anyway, who doesn’t love a song with a hype beat yet somewhat sad or really sad lyrics? I know it isn’t just me!
Right in the middle we have Love Is Blind, a beautiful yet sad song describing the feeling of being left behind, yet still being in love with whoever let you go. The end of a long term relationship is not for the week, especially because after a while you become so used to being with your person that you slowly forget how to live without them. When you’re suddenly dropped into the world alone, it’s incredibly scary. You realize you have to find yourself all over again. That’s what this song is about and Ravyn Lenae does an incredible job at singing about all of these delicate feelings and experiences.
Ending off this ethereal album is Days! Maybe I’ve said this for basically every album so far, but this song does such an amazing job at wrapping the narrative up. It is so beautiful and really sums up being in your early 20’s wonderfully. Some stories were shared when we talked about this song and it led to an absolutely amazing discussion that I heavily recommend you all tap in to! The thoughts and feelings this song evokes after all the other thoughts and feelings from the other 10 tracks on this album can be a little overwhelming for some, but it also really teaches some very valuable life lessons throughout. I myself had an odd sense of clarity after listening to this album, and it was very interesting to think back on it after filming and now as I’m writing this.
